Daniel Ross
Composer

Daniel Ross is an accomplished and versatile singer/songwriter, composer and producer. He works prolifically on soundtracks for film and television, at times producing other singer/songwriters and occasionally emerging from the studio to perform his own work or in support of his collaborators. The long hours and unforgiving deadlines of producing for the film and TV industries have honed Daniel’s arranging, multi-instrumental, and technical skills. From symphonic score for film, to experimental ambient, electronica, roots, jazz, folk and pop, he crafts much of his work in his studio, The Spinning Widget.

Live on stage, while Daniel has made a reputation with his distinctive guitar style, he also performs on bass, keys, drums and percussion with a variety of different artists. He regularly performs as part of Juno Award winner John Bottomley’s band, and is currently collaborating with Bottomley on a new record for release in Spring 2004. Daniel is also a ‘satellite’ member of acoustic/blues act The Blue Voodoo, and will produce songs for the band’s second CD, also set for release in Spring 2004. Some of Daniel’s favourite live shows were as lead guitarist with Shannon Moore’s band Deep Julia, opening for Peter Frampton, Jewel, and Radiohead.

Daniel’s credits are stamped on a wide variety of projects. In addition to his score for the internationally acclaimed award-winning television series Madison (on which he co-wrote and produced songs for the series with lyricist/vocalist and Gemini Award winning actress Sarah Strange), he co-produced singer/songwriter Allen Dobb's critically acclaimed Horses and Hills, joining Dobb to tour in support of the CD; he was honoured in New Orleans at the international Promax 2000 Awards, where he shared a Gold award for his sound design and score for Knowledge Network’s Everything Begins With A Thought; he received a CTC award for his score and sound design for Doug Greenall’s stage play Dead Serious, and has re-kindled his collaboration with Greenall on the filmmaker’s feature film Sister Blue, a psychological thriller that features Daniel’s ethereal and chilling score.

Daniel’s most recent project as a singer/songwriter is The Lost Railroad Journal, a concept country/roots CD of fifteen songs, written from the perspective of an early 20th century drifter--a composite of some of his more colourful pioneer ancestors. The Lost Railroad Journal features sixteen performers, many of whom join Daniel to perform the songs live as part of The Jones Collective. Two separate new solo projects are currently in the works.
